Picasa!

My niece, Reese!!

1. The technology that I explored for this assignment was called Picasa.

2. Picasa is a FREE download that allows its users to upload their pictures to the computer and then create a collage or movie with the pictures. I LOVE pictures and scrapbooking so I decided that this would be the technology I explored. The more pictures I could add to the collage the better. :)

3. This website was very user friendly. It took about 2 or 3 minutes for the entire program to download onto my computer. Because I have recently purchased a new computer, I did not have a lot of pictures on my computer. The program gave me an option to upload all the pictures on my computer, which was so much better than uploading one at a time. It only took a few seconds for all of my pictures to be uploaded. As I began to put the pictures of my niece onto the collage, they dissappeared on the side bar so that I would not duplicate the picture onto the collage. I feel like this could be very useful in the classroom, because it is easy and fun. In grade school we used to have to cut out pictures that started with the given letter and paste them on a piece of paper. Instead of the messy glue the child could do it online by using this program!!

4. My collage is posted above!!! Hope you enjoy it.

5. I found that organizing all of your pictures into a folder may make it easier and to upload the pictures to the site. I would also suggest messing around with the program before you start to work with it. It allows you to change colors and make the pictures bigger or smaller, along with eliminating red eye and touching up the picture's quality. You can also add borders to each one of the pictures if you desire Also, I would check out the digital movie that you can create. After I finished my collage I started the video. It could be very useful for graduation open houses or something of that sort. It would also be more interesting if you added music to the video to make it more meaningful. The program is a lot of fun, espeically if you are into pictures or scrapbooking. Have fun and enjoy!

Emerging Technology 2

For my second emerging technology assignment I decided to do Scrapblogging. I love to scrapbook in my spare time so I thought that I could really get into this website. Scrapblog.com was very fun for me. It was a lot easier than doing the hand-made scrapbooks, but just as fun. I have done something very similar to this website, but the other one was called Snapfish. They were both very similar to eachother and I really enjoyed messing around with this website.

1. Scrapblog.com is a website lets you make a scrapbook without using glue!!!! You choose the background and pictures and then insert from there.

2. This online verison of scrapbooking takes a little less time than it would take to do a handmade scrapbook. This way could even be a little cheaper for whoever is scrapbooking. You do not have to mess with going to the store and getting all the different supplies and printing all of the pictures. Everything you need to make a memorable scrapbook is offered through the website.

3. The website is very user-friendly. I was able to sign up in a matter of seconds and start my scrapbook right away. It gave options for pages that already had a strict layout or one that was blank so you could start from scratch yourself. Its even good because you can take pictures from anywhere off the net (faceook, myspace, photobucket and many more) if you did not have axcess to the original picture. I felt like this website had so many different backgrounds to choose from and things that would make it unique. I like it just as much as snapfish and maybe even a little more!

4. Here is my small portion of scrapblog.com!
http://www.scrapblog.com/5eeaea01de/4FF4B147-507B

5. I did not have any troubles when trying to use this website. For the most part, everything was pretty easy to figure out. I would suggest organizing your pictures because there are themed backgrouds that could make it easier to help you speed up your process. I would also suggest taking your time looking through all of the options! There are so many different things that you can do to make your scrapbook be unique. I would also suggest taking the time to look through everything before you get started. There are so many options to pick from! I took my pictures and did some editing on picknik (an online site that allows you to add words and fun stuff to your picutres to make them look cute). I thought that it made my pages better. Take your time and have fun with this site! :)

Podcasting

Podcasting was a little hard for because I was unsure of how to really even start it or what we were supposed to do. I have a friend that goes Ball State that did a similar assignment and she read her favorite children's book for her podcast. I was able to go home and find the very first book that I was ever able to read when I was in preschool.

After I got that I began to try and figure out how the whole process of podcasting even worked. I was lost and I got really frustrated cause I could not figure it out. It was so easy for me to give up but i continued to try and finish the assignment. My friend that went to Ball State was acutally able to help me out a lot.

As soon as she told me how to do it I felt like a complete idiot because when I actually figured out how to do it I realized how easy it really was to make one. Podcasts could benefit a teacher in sooo many ways. They could acutally record themselves and do an entire story (like I did) while the children sat and listened. It could be used in many ways. Podcasting is just another option that I could use in the classroom. Hope you guys enjoy mine :)

How I Did My Blog and What I Learned!

For me, this assignment was fun! My initial idea of what a blog was, was not correct at all and I learned what it acutally was as I completed the assignment. I love to do things like this. I am very familiar with Myspace and Facebook so it was not too difficult for me to navigate. However, since I had never used blogger it was a little bit different than what I was used to. I played around with the link that we were given and made myself a little more familiar with the site; so when it came time do the the actual assignment I did not struggle to make it. I would advise those who have never done a blog before to play around with it before they try to start one. My favorite part about this assignment was that we got to acutally express who we were through making the blog. There was no set color or layout that we were to use; which made it less stressful and more fun for me. Have fun with the assignment and enjoy the freedom! :)

About me

Hey, my name is Amber Skiles and I am currently a Sophomore at IUPUI. I am acutally torn on what I really want to do right now. Initally I was studying dental hygiene and will apply for dental school in February, but as the time approaches I am not really sure if that is what I want to do. But because I am finished with all the prereqs that I need to take for dental school I have started taking classes for elementary education. The more classes that I take for elementary ed. the more I feel myself siding with this major. My hopes are to teach first, second, or third grade.

I was born in Phoneix Arizona and lived there until I was about 5 years old. Then I moved in with my aunt and unlce to a small town in Northwest Indiana- Kouts was the name of my town. My graduating class only had 50 kids in it. In high school I was really involved. I was a 3 sport athelete, I played volleyball, basketball, and softball. I was also a member of the National Honor Society and the student council.
Like I previously mentioned, I moved in with my aunt and unlce. I only have one sister but my aunt and unlce had three of their own. Tony who is 27 is married and has one little girl, Reese who I adore more than any child on this planet. Holly (25) is the second oldest. She lives here in Indy and is going to school down here to be a vet. Angela (23) also lives in Indy. She is a nurse that works in the surgical trama unit in the Methodist hospital. And finally my sister, Summer (21) lives in Bloomington Indiana, and is currently a student at Indiana University studying social work and will continue her schooling here at IUPUI next year to get her masters degree. Summer is my best friend in the entire world and I honestly could not ask for a better sister than her. My aunt and uncle are the greatest parents anyone could ever ask for. I am truely blessed that they took me under their wings and they have supported me through everything. Also, I have a grandma that means the world to me and I love to spend time with her.
A little more about me:
In my free time I love to hang out with my friends and family. Like my family, my friends do mean the world to me. The best friends that I do have I have gone to school with since I was in preschool. They are the greatest friends that I could ever ask for. We all go to different schools so we frequently are making trips to visit eachother on the weekends. Also, I am a HUGE Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. I watch and go to every game that I can. Truthfully, I could sit and watch sports all day long. I love pictures ( if you cant tell) . Most recently I have been introduced to the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program and plan to be a part of. Ontop of school and all of that I am currently working the IUPUI Campus Center at the Information Desk.
